Celebrated French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet returns for a performance of Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2. More subtle than many of Liszt's fiery works of virtuosity, the Second Piano Concerto displays the composer's remarkable ability to maintain thematic continuity across formal complexity; a compositional prowess that is often overshadowed by his reputation for pianistic acrobatics. The concert opens with an orchestral setting of the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and closes with A Faust Symphony, a set of character sketches inspired by Goethe's Faust featuring tenor Richard Clement and the ASO Men's Chorus.
