Atlanta Symphony Wins Grammy for "Best Surround Sound"

January 31, 2010 -- Conductor Robert Spano, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Choruses won the 2010 Grammy Award in the "Best Surround Sound" category for their July, 2009 Telarc recording titled Transmigration.

Hear Robert Spano describe Barber's Agnus Dei (the choral setting of the compoaser's Adagio for Strings) on Virtuoso Voices.

It takes a master engineering stroke to blend and balance the different voices in the Choir, and conductor Robert Spano says it also requires a certain mastery for the sopranos to sing up so high, and so well.

Transmigration features Barber's Adagio for Strings and Agnus Dei, John Adams' On the Transmigration of Souls, John Corigliano's Elegy and Jennifer Higdon's Dooryard Bloom (World Premiere Recording).
